Fast and Easy No-Crust Quiche. . . .with Spinach, Ham, and Colby Jack or however you like.

I am not my mother. It is such a travesty. I am tired. She never was. She is beautiful, well-groomed without reproach. I forgot to comb my hair and take a shower yesterday. She did crafts with me, always made yummy dinners, and made everything in my world special. I speak in a loud voice and say “no!” much too often. Right now, I’m living my life trying to reach for her standards. I’m not there. You can ask my children if you need verification. Monday was my mothers birthday and Read more […]

Flank Steak on Fajitas, Flank Steak on Rice, Flank Steak in 15 minutes, broils up quite nice.

In my head today. . . . .When I was 8, I had an Aunt who chewed the mess out of gum.I was envious of her jaws. They way they barely moved, as they maneuvered there way, up, down, and around. And every 2-3 seconds the gum would pop! Kind of like Pop rocks, but in a much more sophisticated way. I thought, one day my gum is going to pop like that. When I was 10, I noticed my mom had a lovely long straight nose. It reminded me of a witches nose, less the warts and bumpiness. Pronounced. Out There. Beautifully Read more […]

Crazy Good Oven Baked Baby Back Ribs

Currently, I’m addicted to Yellow by Coldplay. It’s all I want to listen to.When I’m at the gym, it’s in my ear. When I’m on the computer, its playing softly in the background.Right now, when I’m trying to type and talk to you, its replaying over and over again in my head. And not just the song.I keep seeing HIM. The lead singer. Chris Martin. And how he is walking down the beach, all by himself. And it’s dark and cold and beautiful. And he’s just singing. His heart completely in it. He’s singing to Read more […]

Spicy Sesame Vinaigrette over Flank Steak Spinach Salad

Me:  Soledad, can you please get your sister and go on a walk to the Enchanted Forest? When you get there, take a left at the wicked witches cabin, and then without her noticing cut some basil from her garden. I need four cups of it. Oh. And watch out for Scallywags and snails. They’ll be the death of you.Soledad (6) : OK! For sure!Soledad dressed in a Genie costume speedily grabs her sister (who is dressed in a fairy outfit) and they run into the backyard with scissors (probably not the best idea) Read more […]

Meal on the Go! Simple Summer Sub Sandwich

Guess what everybody. It’s the summer. It’s Summer Olympics Time! And Black People Can’t swim!Lately, I’ve been seeing a lot of footage on how black people can’t swim.I think it’s because (fantastically enough) there are three black swimmers on the 2012 US Olympic Swimming Team, which is adding much needed diversity.I think the point the media is trying to make is that a high percentage of black people don’t know how to swim. Which, my friends, is very, very different from flat out NOT BEING ABLE Read more […]

Completely Easy Barbecue Pulled Pork Sandwiches and Why Marriage is not so hard if you don’t mind working your tail off

I think I suck at a lot of things.Like listening.  I don’t listen well. I always intend to listen when the speaker opens their mouth, but then sounds start coming out which remind me of something else, and soon thoughts pop into my head about weeds, tomatoes, Popsicles, and toilets and before you know it, the speaker is like, “Right? WELL. . . .WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THAT?”  And I haven’t a damn clue.Yesterday at 6:03 am I groggily asked Warwick if mosquitoes were rampant outside, because I was Read more […]

Tortilla Pizza and My Birthday Highlights

I waited in line at the DMV for 45 minutes to renew my drivers license. I was by myself. I chewed a piece of gum and didn’t share. .. .and. . .I read a book. It was nice. While I was at the DMV, Lucky peed on the floor and rolled in it. Warwick said he didn’t smell, but he did. So I gave him a bath and he stood moderately still. We ate SUSHI for lunch!!!! Nobody ever wants to eat Sushi with me, but on my birthday. . .not one single complaint:)We early voted. I love pretending that I’m republican Read more […]
