Pre-Game Meal: Pasta and Simple Red Sauce

Today is Bella’s 9th Birthday. And truth be told she’s a real sore loser. That’s one of my favorite parts about her.She has heart. She plays HARD.She works HARD.No need to yell at her. She’s already screaming at herself (or her teammate in her head). But jeez Louise.Sometimes I can’t stand the moping. “Bella,” I say.”Do you love softball?””Yes,” she says. “You know I do.””Then stop with all the moping.” I say.”It’s just that. . .” And “It’s just that. . . .” she murmurs, pouting and kicking the dirt. Lately, I’ve been searching for something.I’ve been spending the majority of my time either in Garden Nurseries, in my backyard digging, at Goodwill, or on Pinterest.I’m wanting something.I’m wanting this moment to be a moment in the future.A moment where my life is more stable. Where my garden is lush, and I know what the he** I’m doing. I’m wanting my house to be full of pictures and items of age, and history. So that when we walk into it WE know.We know that we are worthy? We know that we are lovely? We Read more […]

Flank Steak on Fajitas, Flank Steak on Rice, Flank Steak in 15 minutes, broils up quite nice.

In my head today. . . . .When I was 8, I had an Aunt who chewed the mess out of gum.I was envious of her jaws. They way they barely moved, as they maneuvered there way, up, down, and around. And every 2-3 seconds the gum would pop! Kind of like Pop rocks, but in a much more sophisticated way. I thought, one day my gum is going to pop like that. When I was 10, I noticed my mom had a lovely long straight nose. It reminded me of a witches nose, less the warts and bumpiness. Pronounced. Out There. Beautifully Read more […]

Contact Paper & Decor: Covering Some Old Plastic Drawers.

I have a 12 year old.And she’s quite the funny character.Very moody.Too bossy.Lovable beyond measure. When I was 25, I didn’t know being a mother would be like this.Like I am some overprotective big sister, always looking out for what this kid is doing.Right.Wrong.Weird.When I was 25, I didn’t know that she would tickle me so.That she would amaze me with my likeness.I didn’t know she’d be artistic. And smart.Brilliant in math.Genius with colors.I didn’t know that  she would take pictures that would Read more […]

Low-Fat Buttermilk Caesar Salad Dressing

What I think I have learned today.. . .I could cut the lawn with scissors, but that would be stupid.Likewise, I could dry lettuce with a million paper towels and then stick it into a bowl with more paper towels. Then, I could stick it in a collander and hope it doesn’t wiltBut really, aren’t I just basically cutting the lawn with scissors. Why not buy a salad spinner? They cost like $20. $15 at TJ Maxx.No. Seriously.I’m asking,  “why?”.Why have I lived the last 13 years of my domestic life, thinking Read more […]
